Women Empowerment in Construction & Mining

Empowering Women in Construction & Mining, Enabling Equality

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s essential for people to constantly improve their knowledge and skills to meet the demands of life. Recognising and nurturing these skills is crucial for individuals to secure job opportunities and improve their quality of life. To achieve this goal, the Indian government has launched the Upskilling initiative, supported by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). L&T Construction & Mining Machinery has been a critical player in the training sector among OEMs since the Government launched the Skill India Mission in 2015.

Embracing Inclusivity and Diversity

Traditionally, engineering has been considered a field of work for men, with an image that is rugged, laborious, and primarily related to machinery. These cultural perceptions have contributed to occupational segregation, where engineering has been viewed as a challenging profession for women. However, L&T Construction & Mining Machinery is changing this perception and offering a platform for women to break traditional barriers in the Construction and Mining sector. Our team is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women. We take active measures to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and provides equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender.

Maximising Potential in Women

Our team of female mechanics is growing steadily, and since 2020, we have provided intensive training to 31 women who are now employed at several job sites. We are currently in the process of training an additional five women.

Women working in mines and service shops have become the new normal at L&T Construction & Mining Machinery. We have always supported our Customers by training its employees and helping them develop their skills. In 2020, the Product Support Department (PSD) at Durgapur, L&T’s, provided technical training to women from Tata Steel on machine maintenance. After the training, the women could work seamlessly in their iron ore mines with improved efficiency.

Inclusivity and diversity are more than just words – they are powerful concepts that can transform our communities and workplaces. L&T Construction & Mining Machinery and Komatsu advocate inclusivity and diversity in the workforce for harnessing the full potential of a nation’s human capital.
